The business was founded by Charlotte Wallin. The influence is French pâtisserie.

Charlotte grew up in Melbourne with a French mother and a Swedish father, who was also raised in France. The language and the food were a constant presence, along with time spent in her grandmother’s apartment in Lyon.

There was also a period as a child living near Geneva, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. At four years old, supermarket madeleines were carefully unwrapped one at a time. The memory remained.

At eighteen, she began working in a French pâtisserie. The work was precise, repetitive, and quietly absorbing. It stayed with her.

A career in journalism and marketing followed, before returning to making something by hand.

Maddie Lane is the result. Madeleine towers, composed for weddings and celebrations. A traditional dessert, arranged differently.

The idea is simple. It has been developing for some time.
